I put this off for a while, but I finally pushed my projects over to Gitlab. In lieu of hosting my code myself, I’ve concluded Gitlab seems to be the next best thing, mixing open source software and an organisation that appears capable to keep the site online for an extended period of time. The reason is purely freedom-motivated: when I would be able to host my own servers, it will be quite simple to use Gitlab there too. Of course, the network effects of Bitbucket and certainly Github are large, which is why I will keep my accounts there for now. I mostly develop with internal git servers though, so that code isn’t visible anyway (yet!).
